Band Scholarship Information
Playing an instrument in a high school band may earn you a scholarship based on your academics and musical ability. Colleges and Universities offer awards to deserving students to encourage participation in collegiate music programs.
Here are tips to EARN a band scholarship:
1. Maintain a strong and consistent academic record and take appropriate standardized tests for desired schools if applicable. (SAT, ACT)
2. Enroll in band class and audition for honor bands. (all county, all district, all state band)
3. Participate in more than one ensemble in your high school band for all four years. (marching, concert, or jazz band)
4. Apply to desired schools early and contact the band director to find out about audition dates.
**Audtion Requirments**
Prepared Piece: two solo pieces, movements, or etudes of contrasting tempo and style, or a single selection with contrasting sections
Scales: Chromatic and all 12 major scales as appropriate for each instrument.
Sightreading
**Percussion Audition Requirements**
All percussionist must audition on snare drum, mallet percussion, and timpani
40 Essential Rudiments: Snare Drum (open-closed-open)
Prepared Piece: Solo with contrasting sections. (mallet percussion, timpani)
Scales: Chromatic and all 12 major and minor scales. (mallet percussion)
